How to become a telecommunications contractor
In this article were going to talk about becoming a telecommunications contractor. I live in Washington State, in this state they require telecommunications contractor to have a telecommunications administrator assigned to the telecom contracting technician who is performing the work in the field. So here is how it works. I want to be a telecom contractor and install equipment in various commercial locations. I would have to find a telecom administrator who has taken the states administrative exam and passed. The telecom administrator cannot perform any work he is the administrator of your projects. Now what I did was I took the administrator exam myself and became the contractor and the administrator. I assigned myself the contractor to myself the administrator. Now that is cool huh.
After you have completed and pass the telecom administrator exam you must obtain insurance for your business and a bond. My insurance amount was 2 million dollars and my bond amount is 1500 per year. I am responsible for 200 down on the bond and they cover the rest in case of accident while on site. Once you have completed these steps you are now a licensed and bonded telecommunications technician.
In future articles I am going to talk about the skills needed to become an effective and profitable field technician. Join me later for more articles on becoming a telecommunications contractor.
